Abstract
A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in Shendi Town, Sudan, from March to July 2018
to assess the effect of oral contraceptives on the level of Ca2+, PO43-, Mg2+, Fe2+ sera in 100 women
(50 using oral contraceptive pills and 50 not, as a control group) with ages of 15-50 years. Mean
levels of Ca2+, PO43-, Mg2+, Fe2+ sera among women on oral contraceptive pills was 7.7, 3.31, 1.8 and
32.0 mg/dL respectively, while for the control group was 8.8, 3.35, 2.1 and 20.8 mg/dL respectively.
A significantly lower mean Ca2+, PO43- and Mg2+ and higher Fe2+ level was found in women using
